Jimmy Lee Rivers, Sr.

Funeral services for Jimmy Rivers, Sr. were held on Monday, November 22, 2021, at United Pentecostal Church of Zwolle with Pastor Mona McGregor and Lee Brandon officiating. Burial, with full military honors, followed in Ebarb (St. Ann) Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.

Jimmy was born November 11, 1934, and passed away November 17, 2021, at the age of 87. He retired from the military after serving 21 years. During that time, he served in four military branches – Army, Air Force, Marines, and National Guard. Jimmy was deployed to Korea during the war and twice to Vietnam during the war. When not in service, he lived in Louisiana and worked in construction. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all, Jimmy loved his family and was a devoted husband.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Lee Rivers Jr.; parents, R.L. Rivers and Dunn’Ma Paulette Rivers Neal; sister, Suellen Rivers Sander; and son-in-law, Donnie McGregor.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Cheryl Stanford Rivers of Zwolle; sons, Jason Rivers of Baton Rouge; Dustin Manuel of Portland, Oregon; and Shane Miller (Brandie) of Tennessee; daughters, Paula Parker (Mitchell) of Tennessee; Mona McGregor of Baton Rouge; Tammy Robin (Mike) of Baton Rouge; Joy Douglas (Shannon) of Pitkin; Arlene Rivers of Tennessee; Samantha Slay (Matt) of Zwolle; Patty Jo Manuel of Baton Rouge; and Angela Pennington (Mark) of Alabama; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; mother of his children, Helen Miller of Tennessee; and a host of extended family members.

Jimmy’s family extends a special thanks to his grandson, Lee Brandon and his wife Jessica for their loving care during his illness.
