Katherine “Kathy” Verret Heilman

Katherine Heilman, aged 77, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023. She was born on March 25, 1946, in Morgan City, LA, to her late parents Irvin and Helen Brown Verret. Kathy was a devoted Christian and actively involved in her church community throughout her life.

She dedicated her time to teaching children’s church, Sunday School, and leading various women’s Bible studies. Kathy served for several years at Word of Life church in Patterson, LA, where she made numerous friends while working in the church office. After moving to Many, LA, in 2001, she attended Word of Truth and continued teaching Bible studies and children’s church, fostering new friendships along the way.

Known by different names such as Mom, Grandma, Mawmaw, or Ms. Kathy, she was admired as a faithful, loving Christian woman. Kathy had a special relationship with her Lord and Savior, and her family and friends could attest to her unwavering faith. She had a delightful sense of humor, a contagious laughter, and was known for her delicious white beans and rice, as well as her chocolate chip or M&M cookies.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Helen Brown Verret, and her daughter Heidi Hebert. While her family deeply mourns her loss, they find solace in knowing that she is now rejoicing and dancing with her Lord.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 37 years, William J. Heilman Sr. She is also survived by her two sons, Louis “Al” Hebert III (Lauren) and William Heilman Jr. (Laurie), and her two daughters, Teresa Tilley (Tommy) and Karen Dore. Additionally, Kathy is survived by her three brothers: J. Irvin Verret (Jo), Louis Verret (Lisa), Mark W. Verret (Patricia); and four sisters: Janice Verret, Pam Mayon (Darren Sr.), Jenny Verret Colgin, and Cindy Verret.

Kathy will also be remembered by her grandchildren: Eden, Emily, Amanda, Jonah, Robyn, Dixie, Abbigayle, Shayna, and Quinn, as well as her three special granddogs: Lilith, Marcus, and Duke. She leaves behind great-grandchildren named Audie, Naomi, Sumer, Wesley, Rowyn, Stetsyn, Axl, Harleigh, Ryker, and Annalyse. Furthermore, Kathy is survived by 14 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-niece.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Superior Hospice for the care, support, and compassion they provided during Kathy’s final days. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1st, 2023, in Morgan City, LA. This service will be for family only.
