Sue Peterson was born April 9, 1941 in Converse, LA. She passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2023 at Post Acute Medical (PAM) in Shreveport, LA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ben D. Peterson, an infant son, her parents Gay Laban Peace and Annie Speight Peace, brothers Gary Lane Peace and Phillip Peace and special sister-in-law Betty Lou Peace.

She is survived by her children: Stacey and husband Bob Rao of Coppell, Tx, Jennifer and Don Salter of Shreveport, LA, and Stephen and Angel Peterson of Stonewall, LA; grandchildren Matthew Rao and wife Judy, Jacob Rao and wife Hannah, Sarah Johnson and husband Shawn, Grace Rao, Daniel Salter and wife Kacy, Andrew Salter, Stone Peterson, Sydney Peterson, and Scarlett Peterson; and great-grandchildren Luke Rao, Nathan Rao, Ben Johnson, and Wrangler Peterson. She is also survived by three loving sisters-in-law, Connie Sandel (John), Becky Lehr (Wayne), and Barbara Peterson, and a host of extended family and friends.

Sue grew up in Ward 2 and graduated from Negreet High School. She attended Northwestern State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1963, just one day before marrying her sweetheart, Ben D. They had 57 wonderful years together and their union produced three children and nine grandchildren. She recently welcomed 4 great grandsons that brought great joy and new life to her last years and she was looking forward to welcoming her first great granddaughter in January.

Sue lived a life of service to her God, her family, and her community. She was a country girl with two “hoss in the cane” brothers who made sure she was “Ward 2 Tuff.” She eagerly worked alongside Ben D doing whatever was needed on the farm, while raising the children, working as a nurse, providing home cooked farm to table meals, and always planning a family vacation around the hay cutting schedule. During her career as a nurse, she worked in a variety of settings including: Sabine Medical Center, Sabine Parish Health Unit, Sabine Parish School Nurse, SMC Home Health, and Byrd Hospital geropsychiatric unit. She calmed the fears of new moms, and held the hand of the dying while also comforting their families. She never ran away from a crisis but was always ready to lend a compassionate helping hand. In her retirement years she continued to serve others. She worked alongside Ben D with his chuckwagon cooking and canning produce from his bountiful garden. She and Ben D. went on yearly mission trips to Mexico and Honduras through BMDMI, served with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief all over the southern and eastern coast of the U.S, including New York City after 911, and every Christmas they volunteered with Operation Child. Sue served faithfully in WMU at First Baptist Church Florien and was a member of Louisiana Baptist Nursing Fellowship.

Despite her many health challenges in the end, she continued to offer help and desired to serve others. One of her favorite verses was Luke 17:10, “... when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’” She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed.
