Norman, or Coach Booker as he was affectionately known throughout the community, was a beloved educator and coach for over 20 years. Known as a champion for student athletes throughout the state, his influence garnered great respect, even from his adversaries. As a basketball, football, baseball, and softball coach, he understood the level of dedication, endurance, and talent it took to win. No matter the day, you were likely to find him at a sporting event, whether that be on the field, court, sidelines, or outside the fence if his famous temper had gotten the best of him. His passion was undeniable. Under his leadership, he led several teams to state and world championships. Teaching his athletes to reach their full potential was key in their successes, yet his greatest feat was teaching them to navigate life both on and off the field.

As a teacher and principal, he looked for the best in all of his students. While tough love and a booming voice were often the tools he used to lead, he also knew the value of listening and guiding students with love and compassion. His use of the word behoove, his yearning for student success and his school pride will continue to echo in the minds of all those who flourished under his guidance.

Of all of his roles, being a husband, father, and friend is where he truly excelled. Spending time working on farm projects with his wife, coaching his children, and visiting with friends were the greatest joys of his life. He enjoyed his time hunting, fishing, and working on the farm, but one of his most favorite pastimes was sitting and reflecting on God’s word. Norman knew in order to be a great man, he must turn to the Lord for guidance. It was his mission, no matter the role he was taking on, to ensure God’s light was shown through him.
