Eloise Brown Hayes was born on October 5, 1925 to William Thomas Brown and Ethyl Hammett (Brown) in Forest, Louisiana and passed away Thursday September 14, 2023 in Many, Louisiana.

Eloise grew up during the Great Depression and without her loving mother after the age of five. Although times could be lonely and extremely difficult, she found ways to be happy. In grade school she attended football games, played on the basketball team, and was given the nickname, “Pea-Shot.” After graduating from Ruston High School, she worked at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant located near Doyline, Louisiana. In May of 1946 she married Mack Hayes Jr., and they were blessed with five children. They loved, served, and taught those around them, setting a great example for their posterity. In 1967 she started working on the Army base, Fort Polk, in Vernon Parish near Leesville, LA. At that time, it was the Army’s largest infantry training center. She retired in 1987.

Eloise was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings in the church. Her first calling was a primary teacher, teaching children, and she shared that this is where and how she learned the principles and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She served in the Dallas Texas Temple and was dedicated to searching out family history and records throughout her life.

Four years following retirement, and after 44 years of marriage, Mack passed away. Suffering the loss of her loving companion, she found peace in the knowledge that she would be with him again someday and continued serving the Lord, Jesus Christ. She taught seminary and in 1994, she accepted a call to serve an eighteen-month Family History mission in England & Scotland. She loved family gatherings and spending time with her loved ones. As long as her health permitted, she attended ball games, recitals, and other special events; baby blessings and baptisms being her favorites. These moments gave her great joy; she cherished her family and everything with which she was blessed.

Eloise is survived by her daughter, Judy Vincent of Many, LA; son, Stan Hayes and wife Nola of Natchitoches, LA; daughter, Jill Burch of Alexandria, LA; son, Eric Hayes of Converse, LA; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 13 greatgreat- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
