Alfred Daniel Lucius, M.D.

Alfred Lucius, M.D. went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 3, 2024 in Baytown, Texas. Dan Lucius was loved dearly by all who crossed his path, but especially his wife, siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In turn, he loved everyone who crossed his path and especially those he called family. Dan Lucius was born in Converse, Louisiana on July 6, 1936 along with his twin sister Katherine. Dan was born to Alfred Daniel Lucius (1890) and Nellie Addison Lucius. He will truly be missed by countless many. Dan grew up in Florien, Louisiana, attended Florien High School where he played center for the basketball team and helped the team win the State Championship 2 years in a row. After graduating Valedictorian from Florien High School, Dan attended Northwestern College, now Northwestern University, where he matriculated in 1957 with honors. In 1958, Dan married his college sweetheart, Ann Loftin. After graduating college and marrying, Dan went on to medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans and graduated with an M.D. in 1961. Upon graduation from LSU medical school, Dan was offered an internship at Confederate Memorial Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana where he became intern of the year. Subsequently, he became chief resident in Obstetrics/Gynocology. In 1965, Dan moved to Baytown with his family and what ensued was the beginning of a very successful practice in OB/ GYN. Upon first settling in Baytown, Dan joined practices with Dr. Lee Liggett. The two were later joined in practice by Dr. David Cummings. The rest is, as they say, history.

Dan gained privileges to practice at Gulf Coast Hospital and the old San Jacinto Hospital which is now Houston Methodist Hospital and where he served as Chief of Staff. Dan had an extremely successful OB/GYN practice for 51 years and he cared for his patients as if they were family. Dan truly had a calling for healing. Being a doctor was his lifelong passion. He never minded the grueling hours, the wee hour phone calls or the intense cases. Dan was always ready to face the challenges. Over his career, Dan brought upwards of 12,000 babies into this world, including his son, first grandson and last grandson. More than anything, Dan loved his family and his profession, but we would be remiss to not mention his other passions. Dan was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and snow-skier. These things he shared with friends and family.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, a twin sister, a sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a nephew. He is survived by wife Ann Lucius, children Shawne Barron and husband Andy Barron of Aledo, Leah Lucius of Dallas and Eric Lucius of Mont Belvieu.
