Funeral services for Dovie Tarver were held 11:00 AM, Friday, April 5, 2024 at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, La with interment at Sandy Bayou Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation was held Friday, April 5, 2024 at Riser from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00.
Dovie Mae Moore Tarver was born in Springhill, Louisiana on September 22, 1923 to the union of her parents, Lee Irvin Moore and Stella Dunn Moore and passed from this life at the age of 100, on March 28, 2024 at her daughters home in Many, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years prior to his death, Van Taylor Tarver, Jr.; and her siblings, Jessie Butler Moore, Chester Virgil Moore, Maude Estelle Moore Baker, and Curtis Moore. Dovie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Many, La, since 2004. Prior to that her membership was at Central Baptist in Springhill, and fifty years at Sandy Bayou Baptist in Caldwell Parish. Dovie is survived by her daughter, Shirley Anne Tarver Salley and husband Jerry John Salley Sr., of Many, Louisiana, and son, Van Taylor Tarver, III, of Springhill, Louisiana. She is survived five grandchildren: Cary Dean Tarver and wife Ashley of West Monroe, LA, Vanessa Renee Lauck and husband Ben of the Woodlands, TX, Terrence Tarver of New York and Shreveport, Louisiana, Jerry John Salley, Jr. and wife Suanne of Bartlett, TN, and Brian David Salley and wife Cara of France; eleven great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends all of whom she cherished dearly for their love, prayers, concern, and friendship over the years. Dovie spent fifty years on a farm in Duty Ferry in Catahoula Parish. During this time, her focus was on family and home. She sewed clothes, kept up with school events, canned and froze vegetables, milked a cow everyday, and planted and harvested a garden.She also enjoyed cat fishing in the Ouachita River and hunting squirrels in the hard wood thickets on the farm. After her children was grown she, then started making beautiful ceramic pieces, pieced and quilted quilts, and kept up with farm activities until her husband passed away in 1988. Dovie moved back to her home in Springhill, and remained there until 2004, when she joined her daughter and son in law in Many, LA.
Pallbearers were Paul Wilkins, Philip Wilkins, Cary Tarver, Van Tarver IV, Jerry Salley Sr, and Jerry Jr.
