Ft. Jesup CAR participating in Wreaths Across America

Ft. Jesup CAR participating in Wreaths Across America

The Fort Jesup Society C.A.R. (Children of the American Revolution) is once again remembering local veterans through Wreaths Across America (WAA). Last year the group was able to place over 70 wreaths at veteran gravesites in local cemeteries and honored living veterans in nursing homes in Many with a wreath for their door during the holiday season. This year we plan to honor veterans at the Toledo Nursing Home in Zwolle as well as those in the nursing homes in Many with wreaths and place more wreaths on veterans’ gravesites.

We are excited to announce that St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery is now an official WAA Location, meaning wreaths will be delivered directly to the cemetery.

Wreaths must be ordered by November 28th to guarantee delivery by December 17th.

(The Center Square) — Louisiana voters approved just three of eight proposed constitutional amendments Tuesday night, all aimed at reducing the burden on taxpayers.

Veterans with disabilities will now pay less for property taxes after voters approved Amendment 2 by nearly 73%. Those with a 100% service- connected disability rating or a 100% unemployability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and their spouses will no longer be required to pay any parish property taxes on their homestead if they live there.

Veterans with disability ratings between 70% and 99% and their spouses are also now eligible for a property tax exemption up to $120,000, while those with ratings of 50% to 69% and their spouses will get a property tax break up to $100,000 of the homestead’s value. The previous exemption was capped at $75,000, or $150,000 in certain parishes.

November 9 was a wonderful day for numerous Sabine Parish school programs and organizations that received almost $60,000 in grants from Weyerhaeuser of Zwolle, which has turned their annual awards ceremony into an early holiday tradition of sorts.

Zwolle Mill Operations Manager Anthony Ebarb was on hand and pointed out how Weyerhaeuser supports the communities that supports them. For almost everyone in the room that received a grant, there was a story about how they were connected through the mill through a relative, parent, or brother and sister. Some, such as Zwolle Chief of Police Daniel Thomas, were former employees of the mill who have moved into other sectors of employment.

Humane Society fundraiser, movie slated for Saturday

A special movie The Art of Racing in the Rain will show at the Many Community Center Saturday night, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. It’s a beautiful story about the love between a dog and his human owner who’s a race car driver. IT’S A FUNDRAISER FOR THE SABINE ANIMAL SHELTER. AND IT’S FREE, BUT HOPEFULLY MOVIE GOERS WILL MAKE A DONATION.

Denny Swift is a Formula One race car driver who understands that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate everyday life. Besides his career, Denny has three loves of his life -- his beautiful wife, their young daughter and his best friend, which is a dog that wants to be reincarnated into a human.

The film is not based on actual events, but it has some fundamental aspects in actual details. For example, there is a Mongolian legend that believes that humans and dogs have similar souls. This means that, according to this belief, Enzo would be close to his dream of reincarnation as a human.
