The Town of Many has received quite a few grants in the past few months totaling $139,329 with most programs slated to begin next year. The popular Many Cultural District’s “Music in Many” program has received $7,026 from two grantors: the Central Louisiana Community Foundation for $1,500, and the Louisiana Project Grant, formerly known as the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, for $ 5,526. The Cultural District is planning on two music shows next year along with daytime performances by the Shreveport Opera’s traveling group geared toward high school students. A world-renowned poet will round out the schedule with readings and workshops for students and adults.

Mayor Robert Hable had this to say about the grants, “The Town of Many is continually looking outside the box for grant opportunities to enrich the lives of our citizens.”

Sabine Community Connection held its 2021 Community Picnic on the 25th of September.

Thanks to the continuing support of Atmos Energy, they were able to have a bouncy house and a water slide, as well as other games.

The SCC served lunch and gave out candy to all of the kids who participated.

A great time was had by all.

October is a spooktacular month and Saturday, October 16, you can see a spectacular show at the Many Community Center. The Music in Many show starts at p.m. Theatre will open at 6:15.

Nationally acclaimed musician Brandy Roberts will perform a rollicking show that will have you rocking and rolling in the aisle and on the dance floor. And the best news is that the show is absolutely FREE to everyone attending

The only requirement is that a mask must be worn to keep everyone safe.

Brandy Roberts is a high energy performer offering a Jerry Lee Lewis type show. Brandy is personally endorsed by the Killer, himself. Brandy Roberts will definitely arouse and please the crowd.

Brandy has opened shows for Jerry Lee Lewis and performed at Jerry Lee’s private birthday celebrations from 1995 to 1997. At the gathering, celebrating Jerry Lee Lewis’ 40th year in the music business, Brandy performed on stage with Jerry Lee.

The Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Many have announced the date and times for the 2021 Halloween activities.

On Friday, October 29th the local businesses in town will be handing out candy 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., and neighborhood/ church trick-or-treating will be 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Then the free movie Ghostbusters will be showing at Many Community Center at 7:00 p.m.

The Cost of Freedom and moving Vietnam Memorial Wall will make for a very moving and patriotic addition to this year’s Zwolle Tamale Fiesta.

The exhibit is quite large and features the Traveling Vietnam Wall, which consists of 140 massive panels that list the names of the casualties of the Vietnam war. It also has panels about the Prisoners of War and Missing in Action of the war, plus casualty stats and information about Agent Orange.

They have also added a number of other features as a tribute to the United States military and events throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.

Their 9/11 tribute features six panels of the tower casualties, in addition to panels that detail the losses of those on flights 11, 77, 93, and 175 that horrible day.

Another section covers the U.S. military from 1945-1975 with features on World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, and the U.S.S. Pueblo.

Recently, Aaron Mitchell, Sabine Parish Sheriff, and Cheryl Wooley, Many Police Chief joined together with their officers, deputies, School Resource Officers, detectives, and K-9 units and youth from around the Parish to make it clear they are committed to keeping our children and youth safe. The Sabine Prevention Alliance (SPA) brought these groups together to join with students from the Parish to take pictures that will be featured on signs in areas where children and youth gather for recreation.

When asked why she wanted to partner with the SPA, Many Police Chief Cheryl Wooley said, “If we don’t have a safe, productive generation of kids and youth, then this community has no future. It’s vitally important that we help provide a safe environment and opportunities for them to thrive.”

(The Center Square) – Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has extended a statewide indoor mask mandate, affecting businesses, K-12 schools, college campuses and other public spaces.

The extension was issued via executive order pursuant to the governor’s emergency powers. The mandate was set to expire Wednesday but now will continue until at least Oct. 27.

Edwards first implemented mandatory face coverings in early August, saying the measure was necessary to combat the spread of COVID-19. He said the order was temporary and would last until Sept. 1, though it could be extended. An identical mandate issued last year spanned nearly 12 months.

Cardaries Marks, 29, of Florien, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. to 84 months in prison, followed by 4 years of supervised release, for distribution of methamphetamine and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

On September 29, 2020, members of the Northwest Louisiana Violent Crimes Task Force and Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office met regarding their investigation into the sale of narcotics in the Many area. Agents obtained evidence showing Marks handed a bag of suspected methamphetamine and approximately 95 suspected ecstasy pills to an individual and Marks received payment for those narcotics. The purchased narcotics were sent to the crime laboratory for analysis and confirmed to be over 5 grams of methamphetamine and the pills were confirmed to contain methamphetamine with a net weight of 13.116 grams.

There will be a reunion of former students of Saint John the Baptist Catholic School in Many on Saturday, October 9th, at 10 a.m. in the Saint John cafeteria.

All former students are invited to attend. There will be a brunch, archival and pictorial exhibit and video. All alumni are encouraged to attend and bring photos and memories.

The Zwolle Tamale Fiesta organizing committe is pleased to announce that Dorothy Faye Ezaernack has been chosen to represent the fiesta as this year’s first lady.

She is the daughter of the late Joseph William Procell and Sylvia Rivers Procell. She was born and raised in the small village of Ebarb, where she later graduated as a proud Rebel from Ebarb High School in 1963.
