James Lee “Pappy” Mays

James Lee “Pappy” Mays, 58, of Carlyss passed away on Sept. 13, 2014. James Lee was a life-long resident of Carlyss. He loved to cook, was a great carpenter on his off time and enjoyed catching shrimp in his younger days. Pappy loved his family, cherished his grandchildren. James Lee is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy Cecilia Mays of Carlyss; a daughter, Daphne Lanclos and husband, Mike; two sons, Brent Mays and wife, Stacie and Jared Mays and wife, Nicole all  of Carlyss; mother, Peggy Joyce Mays of Many; five granddaughters, Christin and Lauren Richardson, Bayleigh and  Hayleigh Lanclos, and Dixie Mays and new sibling, Baby Mays; a grandson, Drake Mays; three brothers, Rodney Mays of Sulphur, Eddie Mays and wife, Rose of Carlyss, and Jack Mays and wife, Teri of Sulphur; two sisters, Vicky Leggett and

Kenneth Dean Gengo

Kenneth Dean Gengo, Sr., 79, of Vidor, Texas, died September 2, 2014, in his home after a long battle with pulmonary  fibrosis. Ken was born in Orange, Texas to Charlie Gengo and Mabel Flanigan Gengo, on Sept. 24, 1934. After serving in the USAF, working for Equitable Bag Co. and selling chemicals for Ciba- Geigy, Ken studied HVAC and graduated from the Institute of Technology of Chicago, Ill. He owned and operated Economy Air Conditioning in Vidor and later in Beaumont, Texas. He taught an air conditioning class at Vidor High School in 1980- 81, which was a great satisfaction to him. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling by RV seeing America and visiting children, grandchildren and siblings. Among the many things Ken loved were his family, his church, fishing, playing his guitar, playing his piano, singing, and he loved to laugh.

Funeral services for Bettye Lynn Evans, 80, of Many, were held on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many, with Brother Cyle Clayton and the Rev. T.J. “Hogi” Raborn

Funeral services honoring the life of T.J. “Hogi” Raborn were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 at San Patricio Baptist  Church in Converse, with the Rev. Delman Rogers officiating. Interment followed at Cassell Cemetery in Converse. T.J. was born on Feb. 21, 1939 to Opal and Mary McDonald Raborn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Mary McDonald Raborn; brother, Huey W. Raborn, and son Stoney Raborn. T.J. is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diana Raborn; daughters, Kimberly Allen and husband, Jon, and Toni Darlene Raborn; daughter- in-law Kari Raborn; sisters, Loretta Groce and Linda Paddie and husband, Merle; brother, O.R. Julie Renee Alvarez, 57, born in Houston, Texas on June 18, 1957, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014. Services were held Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. at San Jacinto Funeral Home in Houston, Texas. Burial followed on Aug. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Clearwater Cemetery in Florien. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Lola Evans and Walter
and Helen Theiler; father, Henri M. Theiler and nephew, Ronald A. Theiler. She is survived by her mother, Ernestine Evans Belsha; loving husband, Abel Alvarez, Jr.; sons, Jeremiah A. Maggie Mae Graham

Maggie Mae Graham, 95, long time resident of Sabine  Parish, died peacefully at a private assisted living home in Montgomery, Texas, on Aug. 17. She is a daughter of Frank Martin and Ida Lavina Pilkinton, both of Moro Bay, Ark.
Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, James Hulvatus Ward and daughter, Gloria Faye Ward. She is survived by two sons, Roger Eugene Ward and Bobby Joe Ward, and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. 
A memorial service was held on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. Mrs. Ward and her daughter, Gloria Ward Holmes, will both be interred in the Ward family burial ground at the Zwolle Cemetery in a private
ceremony.
