Patchwork

by Donna Smith Ammons

A recent trip to Orange Beach was the perfect way to kick-off my retirement!! Vicki and I headed out early one Thursday morning, a mere two days after I officially became retired, and made it to our destination in seven hours and five minutes. As usual we gabbed all the way. Diann and Granny were ready and waiting when we got there, along with Grady Tuck and Rufus Edward.

ANGELLE GOVERNOR

It was reported several weeks ago that Scott Angelle, Public Service Commissioner, would be a serious candidate in the event he should run for governor. He has now made it official. As stated before, his background will prove to be very useful as he seeks to be elected. Not only will he be well financed, he is running from a very populous part of the state.

Patchwork

My darling grandson, Braeden, who is nearing his fourth birthday, has taken over the blessing prior to meals. The job of saying
grace has been Riley Kate’s job for years and now she willingly lets little brother do the honors. We were all gathered around my big round table one night recently and it was time for the blessing. We held hands and bowed our heads

DON’T GET TRICKED

I noticed this article the other day and I thought it might be good advice for you. There are many stories about how we can
be tricked by scams and about bad people getting our private information. One lady, who was 66, got a call from someone who reported to be her nephew at 7:10 a.m. The comment from this not-sofamiliar nephew was “Aunt Susan, I am in real
trouble.”

Patchwork

The day is fast approaching for retirement. I can hear laughter already spreading across town. “Yeah right! How many times has Donna already retired?” It’s been three other times and I did retire, I just never left the office. This time I have good intentions. I have been employed by The Sabine Index since 1973. I am in the beginning of my 42nd year.

EDMONSON AMENDMENT

The Edmonson Amendment (Senate Bill 294) was declared unconstitutional by Judge Janice  Clark of the 19th Judicial District. This is a huge win for the ordinary taxpayers of Louisiana. Some of the main players who were instrumental in defeating this amendment are Tom Aswell for uncovering the amendment; State Treasurer John Kennedy for pushing the issue; the Retired State Troopers for providing the invaluable grass-roots effort; Robert Burns for creating a special website
and for filming the activities; and State Senator Dan Claitor for bring the lawsuit (as a taxpayer) whereby the rip-off was declared unconstitutional.

I believe there is a little bit of brainwashing going on in Zachary, home of my oldest son, his expectant wife and their two children, Riley Kate and Braeden. What’s so bad, is that this brainwashing is going on at Braeden’s church school—and it’s Methodist!!

Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

Looking at the Public Service Commissioners (PSC) is interesting. You don’t hear a whole lot about this job, but they do have a very large area presence and it is usually a stepping-stone to running for governor. They regulate companies with lots of
money. One of these commissioners is Scott Angelle, who is from Breaux Bridge. He may soon announce his bid for governor.
Angelle is from Southeast Louisiana, but so is Lt. Goernor Jay Dardenne and U.S. Rep John Bell Edwards
