LEGS COST US MONEY

Remember, in this state it is not the lack of money but it is how we spend it. A good-oleboy bill was exposed this week by
a lobbyist. The bill was slipped through at the 11th hour of the past legislative session and it cost the taxpayers over $300,000. Plus, it adds to the unfunded accrued liability of the state’s pension system.

SURVEY: WHAT’S HAPPENING

Several surveys have taken place lately and other happenings that might be of interest. The Louisiana State Bar Association met in Destin, Florida and adopted a resolution backing efforts to classify simple possession of marijuana as a misdemeanor rather than a felony. It will probably come up in 2015. Several advocates stated that this is going to be a major issue as time goes on

Patchwork

Hubby-dear went camping with Troop 80 Boy Scouts at Camp Pioneer near Mena, Arkansas last week……and I was left to fend for myself. Little did I know I would be relegated to my chair for several days following a trip to the (old) Emergency Room at Sabine Medical Center. For the first several days, I worked, went to play practice and stayed home to watch specific programs and movies on television.

Patchwork

Within the past two weeks, I have received two surprise gifts from friends. Needless to say, I love presents!! Two weeks ago, we were in a staff meeting, when someone came in the front door. Our receptionist went up front and handled the
customer before returning. After the staff meeting, I was gifted with a homemade hummingbird feeder, made from a blue glass bottle, with hand painted designs. I had admired the feeders during Sale on the Trail, when Dale Lyddy set up a display in front of Brandon Law Firm. Dale and I were friends many years ago, when we were both at Vancouver Plywood
Co., Inc.

MANESS - U. S. SENATE

Retired Air Force Colonel Rob Maness of Mandeville announced several months ago that he is running for United States
Senator. His campaign is trying to gain traction since the announcement. He has collected more than $1.2 million in donations, due in large part to early endorsements from the Tea Party Leadership Fund and the Tea Party Express

Patchwork

Rarely do I express my anger loudly. But recently, in the church parking lot I threw a little hissy fit when I couldn’t unlock my  car with the remote or the key. Problems started several months ago, when I had to replace a battery in my remote. It worked every once in awhile and I was convinced that if I was being stalked or chased, I’d have my throat slit before I could
get in my car.

POPULATION REPORT

Population reports were publicized last week showing population estimates in our area. It’s a good indication if people want to live in a particular area. Let’s look around together. The Shreveport population estimates went to 2013-200,327 from 202,066 or 1,739 fewer residents in 2012. Caddo Parish showed 2,554,887 vs. 2,557,091 in 2012 for an increase

I have been busy taking “tests” on Facebook. Really important tests….like “What Disney Princess Are You?” (Belle from
Beauty and the Beast) and “What is Your Mental Age?” (16). I even took what Disney Animal Movie Are You? (Lady and the
Tramp!) These darn quizzes show up on my Facebook page and I just have to take them. (Thanks a lot Francy Hooton for getting me hooked!!)

JIM BROWN FINALLY GOT IT DONE

It’s a bit late but Jim Brown finally got the type of evidence used against him that sent him to jail. He fought long and hard
to explain how he was wrongly prosecuted when an agent used hand-written notes, which his attorneys were never provided, to convict him.
