For the second time in a year an Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 80, Many Boy Scouts has selected a project at the Sabine Council on Aging. In 2012, Colin Troha planted trees around the walking track at the Legacy Building in Many.

Philley, Edwards unite in matrimony

Sara Frances Philley of Monroe and Jonathan Louis Edwards of Shreveport were united in holy matrimony on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, on the banks of the White River at the summer home of Dr. Pete and Fran Swenson in Meeker, Colo. The bride is the daughter of Lannie and Tracey Philley of Mer Rouge and Fran Philley of Monroe. She is the granddaughter of Ilene Philley and the late Edward Philley of Oak Grave and the late Billy and Mae Williamson of Haile.

Arm chair aerobics works for seniors

They’re twisting at the Legacy Building of the Sabine Council on Aging. The music is loud and action is live when senior citizens attend Chair Aerobics on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Chair aerobics is easy for the elderly and very beneficial. Seniors with limited mobility or are wheelchair-bound are ideal for this type of low impact exercises. If a person has to exercise from a chair, there are any number of exercises they can participate in. Things such as stretching arms and fingers, lifting arms above the head, air boxing and punching, and arm circles all provide a great work-out.

Mong stays atop leaderboard by winning monthly tournament

Derek Mong stayed atop the Many Bass Club year-to-date standings by bringing home first place in the September Tournament held out at Toledo Bend. Mong reeled in five fish at the event, tipping the scales at 12.19 pounds.

On a day in which temperatures rose to a sweltering 100 degrees, Derek Mong won the September Tournament of the Many Bass Club with a five-fish stringer tipping the scales at 12.19 pounds. Mong caught his fish in the midlake area of Toledo Bend, using a jig in grass 8-10 feet deep. As a result, Mong stayed atop the year-to-date standings as well, owning an 18-point lead over his nearest competition, Jim Campbell. Though he only brought in four fish to be weighed, Dustin Anders took home second place. Anders weighed in a total of 10.77 pounds, averaging nearly 2.7 pounds per fish.
