Local pastor portrays Jesus on Good Friday

The Rev. Daniel Lowe of Many’s Nazarene Church is shown in his traditional role on Good Friday, April 18. Lowe carries a heavy wooden cross up and down the streets, portraying Jesus. His labor of love is a meaningful symbol of the Easter holiday and a reminder that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected.

Toledo Bend Lake to host Bassmaster Elite Tourney

B.A.S.S., the world’s largest fishing organization, will host the Evan Williams Bourbon Bassmaster Elite at Toledo Bend, May 1 – 4, in Many. This event marks the 14th time B.A.S.S. has held a professional tournament on Toledo Bend and is the fourth of nine Bassmaster Elite Series professional bass fishing tournaments scheduled in 2014.

Lack of bathroom facilities addressed at SPPJ meeting

Danny Wells, a consultant forester, addressed the members of the Sabine Parish Police Jury at its most recent meetings about the lack of restroom facilities at the parish’s 19 solid waste box sites. Wells, with a yellow five-gallon bucket in hand, spoke to the jury about how embarrassed he was for the men who have to use the bathroom at these sites, stating that they had to use a five-gallon bucket to relieve themselves.

Bank of Montgomery holds grand opening

Storm creates damage in Sabine

Winds estimated up to 80 m.p.h. and heavy rains combined for a severe storm which swept through Sabine Parish at 8:30
p.m. Friday night, March 28. The ground was already saturated by rains during the week and when the heavy winds hit, many pines just toppled over.
